Abbey Summer work Party

Saturday 3rd July (09:30 start)

Over this past 12 months we might not have seen much rugby played at Abbey but there has been plenty of work done behind the scenes. We have installed new floodlighting down the whole length of the grounds, carried out extensive ground maintenance work, replaced the ceiling and re-furbished the showers, installed a new disabled toilet in main entrance, re-furbished both ladies and gents’ toilets in main building, replace the chiller in the beer cellar, purchased a new defibrillator to install midway up pitches, a few new bits of kit for the gym and redecorated the main hall. Now without doubt these were all jobs that needed doing and we are sure our members will benefit from but as well as this we hope this will help us promote out facilities to others and help us generate a bit of income from what is really our biggest asset.

So What do we want from you?

Well even though the club has been inactive for most of the last year, winter weather, general wear and tear, age and just the need to freshen our club means we annually have a work party day where we fix, clean, weed, paint, build and do whatever we can to refresh our clubhouse and grounds.

This is a whole club initiative so we are calling on senior, junior and mini sections, parents, VPs or just friends of Abbey RFC who could commit an hour or two or even more. We can find a job for 6- to 60-year-olds (or older) so you can make it a family affair. Treacle Knights (our club captain) is making his list of little jobs which is growing all the time and will be coordinating the day. We hope to be able to appoint age/team sections of club their own task so you will be working alongside people you know.

Best of all we plan on having a BBQ and a drink or two in the afternoon once we have completed the work we have to do. We will supply cleaning materials but if you have a bucket & sponge you could bring along it would help. If you have any particular skills, you think might be useful, please let Treacle know in advance so specific jobs can be covered. I.e.: fence repairs and stiles built.

LET US KNOW IF YOUR COMING

If we are putting on a BBQ, we need to have an idea of number who are likely to come along and help so please let us know if you can make it.

Email either:    Treacle: treacle@abbeyrfc.co.uk  or Kevin:  belliam@outlook.com

Alternatively let your coach, manager or section chair person know so they can pass on your details
